Going out for lunch is fun and the possibilities are endless but it’s also expensive and not entirely healthy.  If you are looking to eat better and save some money, look no further than bringing your lunch to work.  Take the blah out of the bagged lunch and try some different ways to spice up your mid-day munch time.

Lunch Bunch Buddies

It’s way easier to undertake any difficult task with a friend, so find someone who is interested in trying this new venture and get to planning.  You’ll have someone to eat your yummy lunches together, so you aren’t losing the social aspect of eating out. This will also be someone to brainstorm ideas with, so your meals never get boring.

Saving the Planet

Bringing your own lunch to work is also great for mother nature.  There are so many products out there from reusable bags, utensils and containers that will cut down on waste from plastic baggies and plastic forks.  Get excited about your lunch adventures and purchase some staple items that will help keep your efforts cheap and green.

Prepping Party

Now that you’ve decided to take your lunch to work – maybe it’s just for a week to try it out, maybe you’ve made a lifestyle switch – get to prepping and planning.  On the weekends, take an hour to prep your meals for the week – you can even cook and package them in containers so it’s a no brainer at 7am grabbing your lunch for the day.  Preparing your food will get you excited to try different things and give you something to look forward to at work every day.

Don’t Burn Out

It takes a little getting used to but finding new ideas and switching it up is essential to keep the bagged lunch from getting boring.  Pinterest will be your best friend finding new meal ideas and don’t forget your lunch buddy – take inspiration from what they bring, maybe try a recipe or two from their books.  Variety is the spice of life and it is what will keep your lunches exciting and rewarding.

Make it a Group Effort

What’s better than one buddy? More Buddies!  Maybe try to get a group of people on board, or even your whole department, and you’ll have a whole lunch social celebration.  Try it out as an experiment for a week with a group of people.  It will break up the day at work and give people something to socialize about.

Gone are the days of peanut butter and jelly for bagged lunch – although if that’s your thing, embrace it and go for it!  You can really get as creative as you want while saving money, being healthier and taking control of your lunch hour.
